Thanks, Thys. Any comments would be highly appreciated -- thanks!
Instrument Control (GPIB, Serial, VISA, IVI) topics
I feel that through software control, better temperature stability may be achieved. This will also allow me to record the spectra for large temperature range per day.
However, I do not find this vi. January 18, Message 1 of 2. I need to read the data from an lakeshore 330 labview computer via one of the serial ports of the PXI using a home-made program in python.
I've found something on how to send and retrieve data from a serial port using pyVisa, still I don't know how to communicate with the PXI and how to select the proper input from the PXI Do I need to create a custom VI on the PXI to make it listen for inputs via serial and to send the output data to the same port? Any suggestion will be appreciated. I'm using 2 Lakeshore 330 labview in a measurement setup.

The outputs of the devices are being switched on and off a lot of times. Message 3 of 7.
Message 4 of 7. So which one should I choose to implement the ramp feature??

But you should probably want to take spectrograph measurements as fast as it can handle, rather than picking 5 to 10 K increments. Gives you the best data.

Your first described mode, of 'stabilizing' the temperature before measurement, is useless for Thermoluminescence. ShotSimon, I'd seen that thread before but unfortunately it doesn't have drivers for Labview 7 and is for thenot the If you think the drivers for lakeshore 330 labview will work with the then you can post a request in the Version Conversion Board to have the drivers downconverted to your LabVIEW version. It looks like you can set up a Ramp with one of the functions, which might accomplish your second goal.
Without having lakeshore 330 labview temperature controller to try this out on, there is no way for us to know how the controller responds to these commands. For learning about the basics of LabVIEW programming, here are some great resources for getting started.
Hopefully lakeshore 330 labview will get you started, but if you have any more specific questions, please feel free to post them!
